Even fast-food companies are recognizing that the U.S. has dominated other countries in a statistic that it should not be proud ofthe percentage of obese peck living within our borders.Who is to blame for this? No one party can shoulder the bulk of the blame because it belongs to a large number of people. There are a few key points that demonstrate why integration isnt working like it should. The most obvious is the lack of integrations in a lot of schools, and the lack of variation in our classes. Like we saw in the documentary, the schools are integrated, but the classes are segregated. Integration in some schools has led to tracking, which essentially is institutionalized racism- the opposite of what integration is for. Although we have programs like METCO, we dont have nearly enough. There isnt enough integration in our schools, and there isnt anything changing that. The introduction of the factory establishment into the United States brought economic prosperity to many urban cities. The factory system increased the market for construct goods and export products. This generally caused a population boom in many urban centers such as New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Boston. New methods of transportations were introduced to facilitate the increasing run of goods and lying-in among states. Trade with European countries also increased as the number of exports skyrocketed. In essence, the factory system hastened the industrialization process in the United States out front the Civil warfare.In the South, the factory system for cotton spinning and weaving became firmly established in the United States as a result of the War of 1812. In Europe, textile machinery phased out domestic industries in which the worker owned his tools and implements. In America, however, there was little domestic weaving, and as such, the introduction of the factory s ystem (for weaving) faced little opposition. In 1840, there were about 1200 cotton factories in the United States, operating 2 250 000 spindles. Foreshadowing in which a certain image or event may hint at something that becomes more significant later on in the story.Authors often use different literary devices to grab the readers attention, or to establish derriere for plot development later on in the novel. In Herman Melvilles billy goat Budd, Melville uses the literary device of foreshadowing to allow the audience to be cognisant of Billys inevitable fate before the characters in the novel, thus creating a feeling of suspense within the novel.In chapter one, the incident with the ruby-red render (12) functions as a foreshadowing of Billys confrontation with Claggart. This is very similar to what happens later between John Claggart and Billy (58). Melville uses the incident to show that although Billy Budd is a gentle man, unwilling to quarrel, he can become aggressive if provoked. This makes the later incident more believable, since the reader has already seen Billy behaving in this way. The Red Whiskers is similar to Claggart in a number of significant ways. Like Claggart, the Red Whiskers dislikes Billy, and out of sheer envy he bestirs himself to pick a fight with Billy.Melville begins using foreshadowing early in the novel when he describes Billy Budd as a tall handsome sailor that was well adore by mostly all who knew him. Melville makes Billy seems flawless until he informs the audience using straight, matter of fact sentences that Billy has a speech impediment that exclusively seems to rear its ugly head whenever Billy has something of importance to learn (17). The fact that Billys speech impediment only shows when he has something significant to say helps inform the audience that something of significant importance will happen later on in the novel (57). Billys inability to speak during generation of emotion will mean that later, he can non speak the truth and save himself.Veres nickname is ironic in a second way, although the narrator does not point this irony out explicitly. The cha racter referred to as Starry Vere in the Marvell poem is a severe disciplinarian (24), whereas Captain Vere is anything but harsh or brutal in his conduct. But while the name seems ironicat this point in the story, the passage quoted from the poem provides an important piece of foreshadowing. Vere does indeed chatter an unexpectedly harsh discipline upon Billy, and his commitment to principle is what prompts him to be severe (60).Without the element of foreshadowing within Billy Budd it seems almost incoherent that the events of the novel would ache come together. Melvilles use of foreshadowing allows him to take the audience on an unforgettable journey through the life and troubles of Billy Budd and allows the audience to get a full understanding of the situations leading up to Billys tragic end.

In her speech Sojourner Truth recognizes herself as a victim of inequality by stating how she faces discrimination everyday as a black woman. In order to provoke an emotional response in her audience she uses her personal anecdotes and invites her audience who are nearly women facing discrimination from the society. She also references to a man claiming that he says women need to help into carriages and lifted over ditches and have the best rove everywhere. After saying the following quotes she follows an immediate denial. She says that no one is polite to her. When she says this statement Sojourner clearly wants each and every member of her audience to know to know they are emotionally and physically commensurate of fighting injustice.Sojourner uses multiple rhetorical tools to engage her audience. She uses her personal stories as pathos and connects to her audience through her inspirational stories. When she references Christ in her speech she tries to use ethos to try her point. She also uses repetition to engage and empower her audience.Even though we were not there to hear Sojourners speech we can still feel the empowerment and inspiration the speech holds. In the speech it is clear that she does not want violence to fight for her injustice she explains that she only wants equality because she believes that men and women are not different. Although this speech is about womans equality she also explains the injustice African Americans had to suffer from. In her speech Soju rner Truth easily connects with her audience emotionally and allows them to realize that do not need this injustice and deserve equal rights.
